crossing:how to tell what is what

breeding can be confusing so heres some help

H=hatch  K=kelso P,=pure

P, H over P, K= 1/2 H 1/2 K

1/2 H 1/2 K over P, H=3/4 H 1/4 K

3/4 H 1/4 K over P,H=7/8 H 1/8 K

7/8 H 1/8 K over P,H=15/16 H 1/16 K

each time you breed back to the pure hatch side you cut the amount of the kelso by half

what are you breeding for?

Another important thing is to know what your breeding for ask yourself these questions and it will help you find out.

1. Am I fighting in the knife,gaff,short knife,or shortheel?

2.Do I want more power or more speed?

3.Can I get the birds I need for breeding?

4. Have I seen a bird of the breed or breeds I want fight before, and did it fight well?

5. Am I ready for these birds?

6. Do I have pens built so I can pen up the birds I want?

7. Am I in a place were the neighbors won't give me any trouble over my birds?

8. Can i support the birds I want and there offspring(feed, pens, land, etc.)?

9. Can I support myself as well as my birds?

10. Is rasing gamefowl some thing I truely want to do?(# 10 is very important)

what breeds are out there

there are many breeds to choose from when selecting brood stock for your battle crosses (crosses made to fight ex:hatch/kelso) you should choose the right brood stock for the heel you plan to fight, like if you fight in the gaff maybe a hatch cross, or if you fight in the knife maybe a sweater cross, its all up to you

good luck in breeding winners
